In 1970 Auguste MUDRY
creates the first CAP 10. it is a training
aerobatic aircraft inspired by the famous Emeraude plane of
Claude PIEL.
From 1970 to 1997, 282 CAP 10 B
were built. Most of them are dedicated to the army for the training
of the pilots.
In 1971 CAP 20, first competition
single seater is born in the Mudry factory. In 1976,
CAP 20 L (L for light) (only 460 kgs)
will follow.
In 1980, CAP 21 is created with
a tapered wing. It will have the same fuselage as its elders.
Thanks to this modification , the aircraft gains 50°/second
in roll rate. |
Thereafter in 1985 comes CAP 230 aircraft.
the wings remain tapered and some wing root section Apex are added
in wing trailing edge . the skeleton is strengthened allowing the
aircraft to be equipped with a 300 CV engine and be certified for
+10/-10 G load factors. It will essentially perform a military carrier
as it was initially designed for the Air Force that will buy the first
4 units.
CAP 231 aircraft is born in 1990 and
from that date it will win the world’s champion titles .Nevertheless,
the aesthetic difference with CAP 230 is slight
as fuselage, engine and wings are similar except for some leading
edge wing root section apex that correct the noted buffeting when
heavy loaded.
It will move into CAP 231 EX the year after,
in 1991. The change is a 100% carbon-fiber composite wing coming from
an EXTRA 260 aircraft (EX extension for EXTRA).
This aircraft will give birth in 1994 to CAP
232 that still combines the wood fuselage with carbon-fiber
composite wings as created by MUDRY. This CAP 232
will be world champion 12 times.
CAP aircrafts will be acquired in 1997
by APEX group. CAP 10 will
then be equipped with a wood/carbon spar, a new landing gear and new
designed ailerons. These modifications will make it more resistant
and easy to handle , the roll rate changing from 130 to 200 °/
second. This new wing called ‘C’ for Carbon has already
been sold alone for “retrofit” concerning sixty CAP
10 B, and fifteen CAP 10 C have been
built since the production of this aircraft was re-initiated.
CAP 10 C and CAP 232 are
now following their successful way in the respect of their history.
